A Day Without Newspaper?
April 7, 2008 by Corry Surjawan
Dear friends,
I wrote this one under the heading of books because I just want to relate it to reading.
Ok, now, let’s go to my questions
1. Do you read newspaper everyday?
2. How do you feel if you do not read newspaper?
Well, I wrote this because it reminds me on my uncle comment and I do know he won’t read this though I really would like him to read it. Hmm, how should I do it?
Last year, after my father was cremated, my uncle said to my mother to stop subscribing the newspaper. He said that it was wasting money and many others. Yup, he never subscribes newspaper in his whole life. He bought newspaper only and if only my dad came to Semarang and wanted to read newspaper.
This is sometime, thoug small thing, become a big difference between my family and the others in Semarang. In my family, every morning, we will surely spend our morning with newspaper and a cup of coffee; even lately my sister also does it though only reading interesting things that she loves, for instance: movies, tv channels, fashion (never about politics and stuff like that). It reminds me clearly that every morning my dad would surely wait for the newspaper to come and if he waited for quite long, he got upset because he was going for his office.
Well, for them maybe reading newspaper is unimportant, but for us??? Previously, when I stayed at Semarang, I got a little bit inconvinient Why? Yup, no newspaper. I felt isolated, not news, no information, nothing.
What about you guys? Can you live without newspaper?
For sure, newspapers cannot live without us, readers
Touche!
I dont know if this is a response to my Awas Koran blog. But yes, to some extent I agree with you that newspapers spice up our lives, and keep us up with current events. A lecturer of mine once scolded my classmate for not following current events from newspapers. It has become a status symbol. But, well, it depends too on what you read. Like your sister, who reads mostly entertainment and superficial stuff, that reflects her depth of concern. Grow up, Merry!
You are a teacher, Corry, and a teacher should not only be knowledgeable and cute like you, but also keep informed of current worlds’ events. True, some doctored news fuck us up, mislead the innocent and ignorant, uncritical readers. But have a look at Kompas page 6, now that’s a section containing enriching views.
Hugs,
I wonder what kind of reporter you would become if you had the chance. You seem to be into social and economic news, and you are definitely an ardent fan of sports, an ethusiast of Biblical texts, and a movie lover. Probably you can run your own newspaper, and hire me as a journalist
PID
Well, I really don’t mind hiring you as a journalist because you are a very great writer in my opinion, however,… How am I suppose to pay a great writer? Hope that I won’t be bankrupt soon
Yeah, there are things I like in reading. I don’t quite enjoy reading about crimes but I like things which move my heart actually; what are those? well, you know it.
